Over Stephen Rosé

Growing up in Wervik, Belgium, it was my youth dream to become the director of Jurassic Park (whether or not a safe version of the park). Later, I settled for becoming the Flemish Indiana Jones and studied history and archaeology at Ghent University. The closest I eventually came to Indiana Jones was an internship at a prehistoric site in Ghent and at a World War I site in Ypres, as well as some experimental Bronze Age archaeology in Aubéchies.

On the advice of my thesis supervisor (who was impressed by my essay on the Battle of Varus), I studied journalism for another year in Kortrijk. After internships at daily newspapers such as De Morgen and De Standaard, and a short period as a freelance journalist, I entered the professional market.

After that, it took another twenty years, and a much-needed marital push, to finally pick up that, by then digital, pen and write the first words of my first book. A few hundred thousand words later, here we are.
